Dr. Jonathan Newsome is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the High Point University, Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy. He received his doctorate in pharmacy from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2008. After graduation, he completed a PGY-1 community pharmacy residency with Xavier University of Louisiana. Prior to joining High Point University, he served as an Assistant Professor at Hampton University School of Pharmacy in Hampton, VA, and an Associate Professor at South College School of Pharmacy in Knoxville, TN and UT Tyler Fisch College of Pharmacy. In addition to serving as an Associate Professor, he served as the Chair of the Clinical Sciences department at UT Tyler for 2 years.

 

 

Dr. Newsome’s professional interests center on ambulatory care and health disparities. His primary focus is assisting underserved populations in achieving optimal health. He has conducted or assisted with numerous initiatiaves in underserved communities such as HIV awareness, hypertension management, COVID awareness and preventative health care for unhoused populations.

 

 

He currently serves on the board of directors for the National Pharmaceutical Association. In addition to being actively engaged with NPhA, he maintains membership in the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and the American Pharmacists Association.
