Dr. Nathan J. Savage is an Associate Professor, Director of T.E.A.M.S., and co-director of the Musculoskeletal Practice courses in the Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University. He previously served as an Associate Professor with tenure at Winston-Salem State University and brings more than two decades of combined academic and clinical leadership experience. He is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Specialist and Board-Certified Clinical Electrophysiologic Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and Registered in Musculoskeletal® sonography (RMSK®) through the Alliance for Physician Certification & Advancement.
Dr. Savage’s clinical and research focus is on advancing primary care physical therapist practice through integrating point-of-care diagnostic technologies, particularly ultrasound imaging and electrodiagnostic testing. He has several peer-reviewed publications, including in the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy, Medical Science Educator, and Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy. He is deeply committed to student mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration, regularly engaging learners in scholarly activity leading to conference presentations and publications. He has taught and presented nationally and internationally including Combined Sections Meeting (APTA), The Ultrasound Event (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine), Electroneuromyography Symposium and Basic Electroneuromyography Training Program (Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions), and Manual Therapy and Electrodiagnostic Certification Programs at Badr University in Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Savage serves the physical therapy profession as a member of the Specialty Panel on Clinical Electrophysiologic Physical Therapy (American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties) and Vice Chair of the Neuromusculoskeletal Ultrasonography Special Interest Group (Academy of Clinical Electrophysiology & Wound Management). Dr. Savage is passionate about preparing clinicians to practice as autonomous, first-contact, primary care providers utilizing contemporary evidence-based, technology-enhanced clinical reasoning approaches.
