Mark S. Michael, Professor of the Practice of Marketing & Sales, and Assistant Director of the Professional Sales Program joined the PSB full time in the fall of 2017. After a distinguished professional career with Motorola/Motorola Solutions, he chose to enter the academic realm. He had tested the academic waters at High Point University first as a part-time instructor in Fall of 2016 and was quickly identified as a valuable potential addition to the faculty of the PSB Department of Marketing and Sales.

Mr. Michael brings to the classroom his 35 years of experience as a business development and strategy executive. Armed with a B.A. in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley and then an M.B.A. with High Honors from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, Mr. Michael utilized his knowledge of how people think and teamed it with his sales and management skills to rise quickly at Motorola. Starting out as a sales representative, moving through sales management roles at the zone, regional, and national levels before moving into channel strategy and management roles, and ultimately rising to the level of senior consultant for strategy and business development.

Mr. Michael’s expertise is in global channel management, business development, market analytics, sales management, and sales techniques. As an award-winning sales professional and manager, he is skilled at developing teams that meet and exceed their goals as well as a change management expert. In the classroom his students enjoy the stories forming the intersection of real-world examples and textbook learnings and the multiple opportunities for experiential learning. He loves getting to know his students and helping them to not only master the material being taught but also prepare for a meaningful what’s next.  He finds it particularly rewarding to be recognized by so many students as their most impactful mentor.

At HPU, Mr. Michael teaches courses including Sales in Dynamic Environments, Sales Leadership and Retail Selling.  In addition, he was the founding faculty advisor for the National Retail Foundation Student Association and is Assistant Director of the Professional Selling Club at HPU.
