Professor Bruce Shores is an accomplished visual artist known for his landscape, figurative, and still life works in oil. His work in oil is concerned primarily with the possibilities of painting. These possibilities include the idea of observation becoming celebration as well as the interactions of rhythms, repetitions, and intervals within the observed subject matter.
He is also known for his sculptures, particularly his Horse Fragment series. This series includes the sense of interior force affecting exterior surface and how fragmentation creates unexpected compelling visual discoveries. Implied form in this work is as important as actual form.
Having taught Art at the University level since the late ‘80s, he brings decades of teaching experience to the classroom setting. As a working artist since the mid ‘70s Professor Shores has a long history of exhibiting his work. He has over 800 works in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the United States and parts of Europe. His work is included in the Weaver Foundation Collection, curated to honor and highlight work from artists associated with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The experience of being a professional artist is a very important element in creating an engaging classroom experience for his students.
He has received numerous accolades for his work from his peers including:
