Mary DeSimone is an international education coach specializing in ensuring that all learners have the opportunity to rise to their potential. Working in multilingual education for over 20 years as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and district administrator, she has a wide perspective of education needs and opportunities. Her experience includes teaching multilingual learners in private and public schools in the US and abroad with students ranging from pre-K to adult. She is passionate about working to cultivate confidence and expertise in teachers. Her professional development work with teachers includes such topics as curriculum design, growth mindset, emotional intelligence, making content engaging, and creating successful classrooms for multilingual learners. Ms. DeSimone’s most recent work includes Culturally Responsive Social Emotional Learning for teachers in Guatemala and Peru. She lives in Dracut Massachusetts with her husband Steve and her dog Willow.
Supporting English Learners in Your Classroom
In this presentation, participants discover the process of how their students became classified as "English Learners" to better understand who they are serving. They will get an overview of second language acquisition, how to collaborate with the EL teacher, and their responsibility for teaching the language of their content. Finally, participants will leave with immediately implementable strategies to support their ELs with the language demands of the classroom.
