Hi, I'm Annie Borovskiy. I'm from Langhorne, Pennsylvania, a small suburb outside of Philadelphia. I graduated in 2024 and I pursued a degree in sport management. I work as an inside sales representative for the NBA team, the Brooklyn Nets.

Even before I declared to be a student at High Point University, my professors had already had such a large impact on my life. Throughout my time being a student here, they've instilled so much confidence in me and have really allowed me to grow into new opportunities that I never thought I would ever have the opportunity to do.

You know, in the classroom setting, they teach me so much, but it's more than just that. I can talk to them about anything that's going on, whether it be sport related or not, and I know that they're always going to be a sounding board for me. I have so much gratitude to have my professors be mentors in my life.

Dr. Lu and I go pretty far back. In February of my senior year of high school, I was fortunate to attend the Presidential Scholars weekend here at High Point University. I was really fortunate to see Dr. lcco on the first floor of the RG Wanek Center, where she was there. They talked about all the wonderful experiences that students get to go on.

From that very first moment when Dr. lcco gave me her business card, the first thing I did when I got home was reach out to her and really pick her brain about the program. Since then, she has been such a huge impact on my career here at High Point.

I took my first sport class ever with her first semester my freshman year, where I learned every in and out of the sport industry and what my passions may have been. Dr. lcco is the reason I am pursuing what I am pursuing, and if it wasn't for her, I don't think I'd be where I am.

Our Access to Innovators program here at High Point University has really done a lot for me. Not only have I been really fortunate to get to travel during these programs and get that one-on-one time with our innovators, but again it's just the idea of instilling confidence in me and really getting to understand where my passions lie within this industry.

I think my first experience with our Access to Innovators program was with Cynt Marshall. I got to experience a power lunch with her my freshman year where she really got to know my story and know my why, and I got to know hers. That was just truly inspiring, and I kind of knew that I was in the right place.

Her story is truly one of a kind, and she has inspired so many students as well as just females in the sport industry. So getting that one-on-one time with her early on in my career at High Point University really made a difference.

I've also been really fortunate to attend our Dallas Mavericks externship my junior year. That was again one-of-a-kind experience where not only did we get to interact with Cynt Marshall, but dozens of VPs and CEOs and coordinators at the Mavericks across so many different departments, whether that be marketing, sales, sponsorships, or community relations, and really just understand the inner workings of what it takes to be a successful NBA organization.

There are so many things that I truly miss about High Point University. The friends, the family that I've created at High Point University is something that I'll cherish for the rest of my life. So many different activities that I got to be a part of, all my extracurriculars and all the life lessons that I learned at High Point.

Some advice that I would give to current students is put your name out there. You never know what opportunity will come out of it. So make sure that you're going to all of the networking events that High Point University offers, all of our Access to Innovators that come onto campus, make sure that you're taking advantage of our Career and Professional Development office when they have career and internship fairs or just setting up an appointment to go and see them.

Coming to High Point with no resume, no LinkedIn—it was so great that I had classes to help me with that—but it's also really important to take advantage of the opportunities of other offices and other kinds of campus areas that we have here at High Point.

So the Career and Professional Development office, they have helped me grow my resume. They've gotten me, you know, contacts for different sport organizations, even just to pick their brain for an informational interview, which are also crucial to being successful here. So without their, you know, inspiration and all of the work that they do in their office, I couldn't be successful.

To me, 'Choose to be Extraordinary' means to really excel inside and outside of the classroom. Our professors are so passionate about what they teach, and we get to have real-world examples where I've gotten to pitch to senior vice presidents on ideas that have actually been used. There is no shortage of experiential learning at High Point.
