Well, this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, one local university is serving others. High Point University hosting their day of service today, and it's all to celebrate the life and legacy of the civil rights leader. The university has dozens of opportunities for worship, for fellowship, and for service to the community. Fox 8's Floriana Cafkas joins us now live from High Point University. So, Floriana, tell us what are some of the ways that people can give back today?

Good morning. Well, students are already out beginning their work of service today to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They're starting a food distribution here right now, but that's not the only thing that they have going on today. I'm here with Anya Covington, a freshman at HPU. Anya, you're getting involved today. Tell me a little bit about the um volunteer opportunity you're doing today. So today I will be participating in the Ferndale Middle School teachers' lounge revitalization project. In which this project we're going in and giving these teachers a whole new space, a whole new lounge for them to not only work comfortably, but to be able to have a space to come in and debrief from their day.

We're cleaning, we're painting, decorating, and giving them whole new furniture. So we're really excited about that.

Awesome. Really an incredible opportunity to give back to the community. Talk to me a little bit about why you decided to do this project especially on MLK Day.

So I decided to do this project because not only as a Bonner leader is service important to me but teaching is very important to me. Teachers are probably the most important people in our education experience. So without them I wouldn't be where I am today. None of us would be where we are today. So I think giving back to those people that really set that foundation in us for our education is really important.

Absolutely incredible. And there's so many ways to give back today throughout, you know, for every student here at HPU. Talk to me a little bit about why this day is so important. You know, it's a day on, not a day off. Right.

MLK Day is a day on because we want to honor those that served for us before we could serve for ourselves. We want to give back to our community. We don't just want to be here to get our education, but we want to be here to learn, learn about the world that we live in and be able to serve those around us because that's what's most important in life. And that can be the most fulfilling thing in life is serving.

Absolutely amazing. A lot of service happening today. A lot of really amazing opportunities. Really appreciate it, Anya. Um, a lot of opportunities today.
