Hi I'm Dr. Jenny Kordell. I'm an alumni of the class of 2017. I was a chemistry major and a marketing minor. I'm currently a family medicine resident at the University of Colorado in Denver and I absolutely love it.

I got recruited for soccer fairly early so we go to campus. I just remember seeing all of the people and going through campus and everybody like oh hello welcome why are you here like what's going on.

Then the soccer coaches like showed me around campus introduced me to students who were all just so happy. I was like ah this is such a great place and I've never been a place like that. I knew after that that I had to come home.

So I came into HPU. I knew I liked science but I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do with it. I eventually chose chemistry just because I liked a lot of the problem solving aspects of it.

So really as I went through college I thought I was going to do a PhD in chemistry but as I played soccer and got injuries interacted more with doctors and did things at nursing homes I realized I wasn't as much like a researcher kind of behind the bench. I really liked interacting with people.

So then doing that and then interacting with other doctors throughout my college career kind of led me to medicine.

HPU definitely 100% helped me get to medical school. I don't think I would have even thought about medical school without all of my advisers at HPU who honestly they gave me a lot of confidence and helped me get into a lot of things while I was here.

I did a lot of research um and all of them were incredibly helpful because I was busy playing.

I came into High Point with lots of Drive um and was very self-motivated but I think those interpersonal skills that I got at High Point are invaluable and I can't speak to that enough in my career about how big a difference that makes for my patients.

There are so many incredible opportunities at high point but I think the biggest thing is all these incredible mentors that you have access to. You'll never be at a point in your life again where you're surrounded by so many people who are motivated to help you succeed.

I would say let your professors in tell them what you want to do and let them help you and figure out even if you don't know what you want to do help them let them help you figure out what you want to do.

Choose to be extraordinary to me means finding something that you love to do um and then showing that every day when you're working with it and then showing other people um your love for what you do and helping them find the same thing.
