My name is Kenneth Anthony Marshall. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. I graduated High Point University in 2015. My current position is senior media producer at AT&T for Learning and Development organization.

So as far as living at High Point, there's no better University that does housing and lodging like High Point does. It was absolutely phenomenal.

And as far as learning here, it was the highest level. Every attention to detail was perfect and it really made me comfortable and vulnerable to really open myself up to learn and to be able to get to higher education here at High Point University.

High Point University goes above and beyond with the staff and the teachers. There is nothing like it.

My professors here at High Point University were amazing. From Robert Paul, Bobby Lambert, Dean Smith, I took courses with him. They were all just amazing people, human beings, and they made time to make sure I had what I need to do well in all the classes.

So it was absolutely amazing to be a Communications major here. I had access to all the latest equipment, all the newest things. I had a full-on state-of-the-art newsroom. I was able to get my hands on all these different things and actually touch these things before going out into the field and trying to learn them on my own.

So it really gave me the skill set and the technical application skills to go out into the field that I work in and really be hands-on and knowledgeable rather than going in there being really green.

I spent a lot of my time at the Student Center for success. I would say don't be afraid to ask for help. Don't be afraid to go seek that Student Center out because they have ultimate and excellent resources that every student should take advantage of.

But also, I would say the innovators that they have on campus now. I mean, it's not every day you can go one month and be in a workshop with the head of Netflix and the next you're going to meet with the CEO of the Dallas Mavericks and the next you're meeting with the COO of Apple.

Like, these are once in a-lifetime opportunities that we get here at High Point University to grow and learn at a different level with the best insight in the business.

The on-set production skill set that I learned here really gave me an upper hand when I first got my job in LA working for AT&T. I got hired, and one day a week later, I was starting my job. And they said, 'All right, you're going to be on the set helping us do all this stuff.' I didn't know any of the people. I didn't know what kind of equipment we had. I didn't know the room I was in.

But I knew what I learned at college, and I was ready to show up on that set. I didn't feel nervous. I wasn't scared. It wasn't surprising for me because I was in this environment already doing these things—setting up lights, bringing the camera around.

And so just that technical ability, but also networking capability, I was able to shape that here at High Point and be myself, and that has really been a positive thing. I've been able to add to my skill set.

Choosing to be extraordinary means that you are making a decision to go above and beyond what is normal. You are trying to excel at the highest level. You are not just thinking about yourself. You're thinking about others. It's when you become selfless and you want to see not just yourself do better but everybody around you do better.
