Hi my name is Mikaela Campbell. I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana. I graduated from High Point University in May 2018.

I currently work at the National Basketball Association in New York City.

I arrived at HPU very excited to be here. I was a track and field athlete, so I knew I wanted to be around sports in some way.

From there I decided to intern at a lot of different sports organizations with the help of High Point and the career and professional development office, starting with IMG College, also High Point University's athletic department, USA Track and Field, and Under Armor.

I've now been at the NBA for a little over four years, working specifically on our Global Partnerships team. For me, that basically means I work with all of our marketing partners, say Nike, Gatorade, and so on.

I went to the career offices a lot here at High Point University just to understand how to break into the field I wanted to be in.

They helped me a lot with my resume, with interview prep. They also encouraged me to go to a lot of the career fairs here on campus.

When I entered the sports management department, I was assigned to Dr. Luco as an advisor. She meant the world to me.

She really helped me every step of the way just to understand what I wanted to do in the industry and how I could get there. She also just showed her own passion and enthusiasm for the space, which made me realize that's exactly how I wanted to feel in my own career.

What High Point does for students is give you the confidence to walk into any space and be like you belong there. They make you feel like you're prepared for any interview, any presentation, whatever it may be, no matter how high up those around you are.

They make you feel like you are prepared for those conversations and they make you feel like you belong in that space, so you're not afraid to ask any questions, to create new ideas, and to make sure you're pushing, you know, your organization forward.

I would say High Point University gives you a million and one amazing opportunities. It's your job to take advantage of those while you're on this campus, whether it's networking sessions, career and internship expos, but also moments to have professional interviews on this campus.

I would reach out to all of the different departments, understand what's going on on the campus, and take full advantage because the opportunity is available here are unlike at any other school.

By the time I left here, I felt like I had a family in this university. I felt very confident in my abilities, and I felt like if you take on the world, I never would have thought I would have ended up in New York City.

But here I am, living out a dream that was truly a dream to me.

I would say choosing to be extraordinary means choosing to show up as yourself every day, choosing to push yourself, push your environment, and make sure you're bringing your opinion into a room and helping change the world you're in.
