Soon your HPU student will be home for the holidays, and we want to share valuable resources available on our website 24/7. We hope these resources will prompt productive career-related conversations and hope you will encourage your student to take full advantage of our recently improved website.
As you browse the menu on the left side of the site, you will see that resources are grouped into six sections (one is especially for parents). In the first, a featured resource called “What Can I Do With This Major?” offers excellent information connecting each HPU academic major to the world of work. This site lists areas of employment for each major. For example, for the accounting major, areas listed are public, corporate, education, and government/non-profit accounting. Within each area, types of employers are listed, and at the end of the page, there are numerous hyper-links that take you to lists of relevant professional associations, career-related sites, and job boards. As you know, professional associations are one of the best ways to network, and we hope you will encourage your son/daughter to investigate those that relate to their major.
Also in the first section of the menu on the left, you will find a fantastic new resource called Candid Career, which is an extensive video library that allows students to learn from the experiences of others. Candid Career is the premier provider of thousands of video-taped informational interviews featuring industry professionals sharing insights into their position and advice for entering their field. Videos that are not about a specific industry provide tips on everything from networking to following-up after the interview.
In the second section of the website we have an amazing new resource called Interview Stream, an online interview preparation tool that can assist students as they apply for internships, full-time jobs, and graduate school. Students can use the system to record videos of themselves answering interview questions selected from an extensive list. Once students record a mock interview, they can share it for feedback. If you would like to check this out, you may log in using your student’s HPU email (create a password).
Finally, we want you to be very familiar withPurple Briefcase, which is prominently located in the center of the front page and also on the menu on the left side. Powered by Symplicity, PantherLink is our student and employer registration and management system. Through PantherLink and using their HPU email/password, students may view upcoming events sponsored by our department, search internships and jobs that have been listed specifically for HPU students/alumni, and apply through the system for listed opportunities. It is important to note that all HPU students are automatically registered to use PantherLink with their HPU email (students go right to the login side and do not need to register). If you are a parent-employer and wish to list opportunities for HPU students/alumni, you may do so here.
Of course our website offers many more helpful resources than the ones we have highlighted. And we remind you (and hope you will remind your student) that the most effective way we can assist is through meeting face-to-face for an appointment. Students may use this online form to schedule an appointment with a Career Advisor.
