HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 4, 2015 – High Point University will host nearly 10,000 visitors during the month of February for Family Weekend and two Presidential Scholars Weekends. The events will bring an extra economic boost to the city of High Point and the greater Triad area during a month often slow in business. Family Weekend will take place Feb. 6-8, and Presidential Scholars Weekends will be held Feb. 13-15 and Feb. 27-Mar. 1.
“We always look forward to welcoming guests from High Point University during this time of the year, and throughout the year,” says Iva Panayotova, assistant general manager of Courtyard Marriott. “These HPU families are our largest customer-base. They visit many surrounding businesses and restaurants and often return to stay with us again in the future.”
Family Weekend will include a variety of activities, including a session where HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein will give an overview and update of the growth and progression of the university; family bingo; a choral concert, faculty lectures, various religious services and much more. Many other events planned for the weekend can be found here.
Presidential Scholars Weekends will host prospective HPU students who demonstrated outstanding achievement, good citizenship, strong leadership and exceptional scholarship during their high school careers.
The economic impact of the university, around $465 million annually, is a vital source for businesses in the city like the Courtyard Marriott, which is filling each guest room with photos of the university, as well as HPU magazines and books. During the 2013-14 academic year, HPU welcomed more than 80,000 visitors to campus through many activities, including admissions and prospective tours, cultural events, athletic events and Big South Conference tournaments, Alumni and Family Weekends, and much more.
