HPU to Host Former Professional Snowboarder Kevin Pearce

HIGH POINT, N.C., DATE, 2015 – High Point University will host Kevin Pearce, former professional snowboarder and co-founder of LoveYourBrain LLC, at 6 p.m. on April 15 in the Extraordinaire Cinema in the R.G. Wanek Center. This event is free and open to the public, no tickets are required.

On Dec. 31, 2009, while training for the Olympic trials in Park City, Utah, Pearce suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Although he was wearing a helmet at the time, the injury left him in critical condition and in a medically induced coma. Pearce’s recovery, and journey to accept his new life, was recently chronicled in “The Crash Reel,” an HBO documentary film directed by two-time Oscar nominated director, Lucy Walker.

Pearce and his brother Adam founded LoveYourBrain LLC. Their mission is to prevent brain injuries, support brain injury recovery and promote brain health. Their vision is to create a community that has a greater understanding of the importance of the human brain and a smarter and healthier generation of active people.

“Kevin’s story is so inspiring,” says Brooke Liberto, HPU student who organized the event. “At High Point University we value perseverance in the face of adversity and Kevin Pearce is an individual who truly embodies that ideal. I am honored to have him as a guest speaker on this campus.”
