With another successful commencement behind us, recent High Point University graduates are preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2015:
Name: Megan Muir
Hometown: Wayne, Pennsylvania
Major: Muir graduated with a B.S. in Interior Design on May 9.
Post-graduation plans: Muir accepted a position as a global design intern with Marriott International in Bethesda, Maryland. Through her position with Marriott’s architecture and construction department, Muir will work alongside associate and senior-level designers on new and conversion hospitality projects, both nationally and internationally.
How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University has not only given me the tools to succeed but has offered me so much more. Through my studies and interactions with professors and classmates, I feel that I have grown as a student being able to develop and hone my creative and leadership skills that have helped me achieve my academic and professional goals.
Career Services here at High Point University does not just help students obtain jobs; they are so much more. Both Bridget Holcombe and Eric Melniczek have not only been career mentors, but both encouragers and cheerleaders throughout my career search process. Being able to have access to their knowledge and expertise of the working world has broadened my understanding and abilities to be able to create successful and meaningful professional contacts and develop a network that I will be able to carry with me throughout my professional career.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “One of my favorite aspects of High Point University is it truly is an extraordinary environment that inspires students to reach their full potential, which makes it hard to choose just one mentor that has impacted my college experience. Ms. Cathy Nowicki has not only been one of my professors for my past four years in the interior design program, but a constant in the development of my learning and understanding of interior design. She is a woman with a large heart and understanding for her students and has encouraged me throughout projects to always reach my creative potential.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at High Point University was this past semester when I had the opportunity to take one of my many interior design projects and make it a reality. Having to design a renewed plan for our local West End Ministries was no small task, but once completed as a class I felt called to take the project to the next step of development. I felt inspired knowing that at High Point, we are capable of doing extraordinary work because in this environment we are prepared for it. After working alongside the Board of Stewards for fundraising as well as the High Point University Security, we were able to raise the funds for a security system for West End as well as have the new locking system donated by the University. Being able to watch our ideas grow to a reality has been my most impactful moment at HPU and gave me a personal definition to an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My advice to the underclassmen would be find your passion place. Whether it is within your major or an organization you belong to, find you passion and follow it with all your heart. Success will come if you are doing what you love to do!”
