HPU’s newest cohort of students represents a wide variety of academic achievement, service, backgrounds, cultures and geographic locations. Below is a snapshot of a student whose combination of community service, academic excellence and extracurricular activities have set her up for a successful future at HPU:
Name: Samantha Berg
Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
High school attended: Newton South High School in Newton, Massachusetts
Accomplishments: Berg is the reigning Miss Teen Massachusetts International. She competes and has placed in both horseback riding and dance competitions. In high school, she was on the honor roll every year, and received a scholarship for her volunteerism. Berg also enjoys giving back while serving with Habitat for Humanity, the Special Olympics, the PMC Ride for Kids, Stop it Now and many more organizations.

Why you chose HPU: “When I was researching different schools, High Point stood out to me as a great school for education. It seems like it will really prepare me for the challenges of working in a school, and the Disabilities Studies will show me the different types of students I might work with and the best approaches to teaching them. I really enjoyed how as a freshman I can be in a school learning hands-on. High Point is located in a place that offers the ability to pursue lots of different careers and paths. I toured High Point this past April, and really enjoyed what a beautiful campus it was. I felt comfortable with the tour guides and ambassadors that we met, and could see myself as a student there. Another really important factor for me in considering colleges is class size and faculty. I need to know that my professors will get to know me as a person and work with me to do the best work that I can. High Point is the total package for a school where I can be successful.”
What you’re looking forward to at HPU: “I am really looking forward to making new friends, being able to connect with my professors and build a life for after I graduate. I’m also looking forward to getting involved in a sorority and the sisterhood it will create. I know at High Point University I will be able to accomplish my dreams and be successful.”
