Family Weekend Brings 5,000 to City

HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 28, 2016 – High Point University will host more than 5,000 visitors Feb. 5-7 for its Winter Family Weekend, when families will take part in a variety of activities, including a service project, where they will have the opportunity to pack healthy meals to be distributed to the Triad Food Pantry and Senior Resources of Guilford County.

The event will bring an estimated economic impact of $2,473,237 to High Point and the greater Triad as families – many from out-of-state – stay, dine and shop at local hotels, restaurants and retail stores.

“HPU Fall Family Weekend produces a substantial amount of tourism dollars,” says Tim Mabe, president and CEO of the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau. “High Point University families spend multiple days in our city, which in turn, generates a substantial economic impact. Not only do these families come for this weekend, but most of them come throughout the year for other activities, which is great for High Point.”

The economic impact of the university, $465 million annually, is a vital source for businesses in the city.

“We love seeing our HPU students throughout the year and love when they bring their families to visit us,” said Samuel Kulwicki, general manager for Carolina’s Diner. “HPU families are always gracious and appreciative, and we truly enjoy seeing them each and every time.”

Other Family Weekend activities include, a university update with Dr. Nido Qubein, HPU president; faculty lectures; student performances; athletic events; worship services; and much more. The full schedule for the weekend is available at http://www.highpoint.edu/familyweekend/.
