HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 11, 2016 – High Point University rising senior Kasey Degon is gaining valuable accounting experience through her summer internship with Ernst and Young in Boston.
Degon, an accounting major from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, is an assurance intern with the company. She assists with some of the firm’s largest tasks, working with engagement teams to complete audits at different client sites.
“This internship is going to give me experience that I would not be able to get anywhere else,” she says. “Every day I am surrounded by people who want to see me succeed and excel.”
At the end of the summer, Degon will join her fellow Ernst and Young interns on a trip to Disney World, where they will attend conferences and workshops, compete in team challenges and have fun exploring the parks.
The Office of Career and Professional Development helped Degon land the accounting internship by putting her in touch with an HPU graduate who works at the company. She says that all of her professors have been very supportive and have provided her with the knowledge required to succeed professionally.
Degon hopes that this opportunity will grant her the experience and knowledge necessary for a future career as a certified public accountant. She hopes to work at one of the “Big Four” international accounting firms – one of which is Ernst and Young.
“This internship will truly open many doors for me in my future career,” she says. “I hope to get as much as I can out of this opportunity and improve my knowledge.”
