Class of 2020 -

With another successful commencement behind us, recent High Point University graduates are preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2018:

Name: Marissa Proctor

Hometown: Wake Forest, North Carolina

Major: Proctor graduated with a B.S.B.A. in business and a minor in marketing.

Post-graduation plans: As the quality systems project manager at Teleflex in Morrisville, North Carolina, Proctor works directly with the director of quality systems ensuring that all product labels are in accordance with FDA regulations. Her duties will include ensuring that projects are in accordance with FDA regulations and on schedule. This is important since all of the products manufactured by Teleflex are being used in hospitals all over the world.

How HPU helped you get there: “I was able to explore a variety of majors, minors and classes that helped me to decide where I wanted my career to go. This was something that helped me develop a wide array of skills that I am able to use every day in all of my life choices. I never felt nervous or afraid to try something new since I was able to try anything and everything I wanted at HPU. Career and Professional Development helped me improve my resume, prepare for job interviews and acknowledge the skills I wanted to promote for myself. I went into interviews as a confident young professional knowing that I was learning from the best.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Jeff Silverthorne was the most impactful person for me at HPU because he shows a continuous interest in his students’ well-being. He was my first business professor at HPU, and he still keeps in touch and assists me with any business-related questions I have. Professor Silverthorne also assisted me in my study abroad program to ensure that I had valid recommendations and everything that I needed before I left for Europe. I still keep in touch with him although I have graduated, and it is encouraging to know that there is always somebody making sure I am succeeding in my field of work.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Don’t be afraid to try everything or switch things up sometimes! When I came to HPU, I was determined to be a genetic researcher, and after two years of biochemistry courses, I chose a different education path. This was the best thing I could’ve done for myself, and now I am in a field that allows me to use my biochemistry knowledge as well as my business knowledge. Changing things up to make yourself happy will work out in the end!”
