Name: Maggie Andrulis

Hometown: Manassas, Virginia

Year: Class of 2019

Major: Graphic design with a minor in photography

Internship: Andrulis spent the summer as an intern for the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod in Hyannis, Massachusetts. She worked on a variety of projects that included event management, production marketing and arts advocacy. She helped promote and run the biggest cultural event on Cape Cod, the Pops by the Sea concert featuring the Boston Pops Orchestra.

How HPU helped you get there: “Attending HPU has given me the opportunities to create the perfect toolbox of skills necessary to succeed. Between my classes and on-campus leadership positions, I have learned valuable life skills that helped me land my dream internship at the Arts Foundation. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for my professors who constantly challenge me and push me to be better or my peers who support my dreams and help me grow.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU is Professor Benita VanWinkle. She constantly challenges me to think differently and become a better artist. Professor VanWinkle has helped me strive for challenging opportunities and pushed me to excel in everything I put my mind to. I am a better student, friend, artist and professional because of the work I’ve put in with Professor VanWinkle. Without her, I would have never gone outside of my comfort zone to find a competitive internship. And without her, I would not have had the skills I needed to land this internship and be successful.”

What has your internship experience been like, and how is it preparing you for your future?: “I had so much fun working for the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod! Every day at work I experienced something different, which I love. Some days were spent designing posters or print materials, and some days, I was out in our local community working on projects. Working at the Arts Foundation has given me a diverse set of skills that I will be able to utilize in future career opportunities.”
