With another successful Commencement behind us, High Point University graduates are commencing prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2020:
Name: Mikayla Labbe
Hometown: Clearwater, Florida
Major: Exercise science on the pre-physical therapy track with minors in biology and psychology
Post-graduation plans: Labbe will be attending Gannon University for their Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU gives access to such great resources for all students throughout their undergraduate careers. I definitely utilized the Office of Student Success and the Office of Career and Professional Development multiple times over the years, which has helped me attain my future goals in more ways than one. I went to the Office of Career and Professional Development searching for help with writing my graduate school application essays. Emily Long was tremendously helpful in that as well as preparing me for answering questions in my physical therapy program interviews.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU has to be Britt Carl. I met her freshman year when she was my success coach and I have not stopped visiting her office to continue getting advice as well as just catching up throughout my four years here.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “The most impactful moment of my HPU career has to be applying and receiving admission into the advanced human anatomy course my senior year. This class’ cadaver laboratory sessions helped me to prepare for my graduate school program more than any other course I’ve taken at HPU.”
Advice for underclassmen: “To any underclassman entering HPU, I have to recommend joining at least one club. I have developed such a love for serving the community through the multiple volunteer organizations I joined freshman year. For those experiences, I am forever grateful, and you won’t regret it!”
