HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2022:

Name: Courtney Taylor

Hometown: Shrewsbury, Massachusetts

Major: Psychology with a minor in public and professional writing

Post-graduation plans: Taylor will be pursuing a Master of Arts in mental health counseling with a certification in child and family health and wellness at Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts.

How HPU helped you get there: “I owe a lot of my success to HPU. As a freshman, I was nervous, timid and unsure of myself. I had an idea of what my goals were but not enough confidence to pursue them or know where to start. Now I am confident, passionate and extremely motivated to pursue my dreams. The environment at HPU is like no other — I was surrounded by people who pushed me out of my comfort zone and to build the confidence to go after my dreams! The Office of Career and Professional Development helped me understand the importance of networking and utilizing connections. Without networking, I would not have had the experiences that helped me get into Boston College.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Stacy Lipowski was my most impactful mentor at HPU. She was there for me through the stress and anxiety of taking classes online during the pandemic and applying to graduate school. Her willingness to offer personal and professional advice while still being warmhearted and approachable went a long way for me. I was blessed with the opportunity to conduct research alongside her and to learn about her passions for developmental and cognitive psychology. I have been so inspired and motivated by Dr. Lipowski during my time at HPU.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “There have been so many impactful moments it is so hard to choose. However, any moment when a faculty showed genuine interest in wanting to make a connection with me has definitely been the most impactful. The faculty at HPU is great about getting to know each and every one of their students and truly do care about you.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU is a place where professors, faculty and staff want the best for students and are invested in their success. The positive and uplifting environment is one that I will miss and truly appreciated.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop many life skills. The ability to think critically and form different perspectives is a skill that’s been extremely beneficial in my field. Because of this skill, I can have intelligent conversations with people who have different beliefs and learn something from each one.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “I was raised on the belief that hard work is necessary to achieve what you want, and nothing will ever be handed to you. HPU developed this value further and taught me to appreciate hard work and a strong work ethic. I have also developed a better appreciation for my faith and the value of being a proud American.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Your four years go by so fast, so soak it all in. Take advantage of everything that HPU has to offer. Never be afraid to reach out to upperclassmen. They will truly be some of your best resources during your time at HPU. Also, networking is so important, so start as soon as you can!”
