Hometown: Guiyang, China

Major: Sport management with a minor in athletic coaching

Post-graduation plans: Xie will be attending Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, to pursue a master’s in sports leadership.

How HPU helped you get there:The Office of Career and Professional Development helped me connect with and experience the job environment in the U.S. My career advisor gave me resume advice and helped me research graduate schools. The classes HPU offered also helped me develop the confidence to achieve my master’s degree.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Jenny Lukow was my most impactful mentor at HPU. She not only served as a great advisor during my academic journey, but she also supported me as an international student. She made me feel connected and like I belonged to the HPU family.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was when my professors supported my club event. It showed how professors at HPU care about the individual student and support in whatever way they can.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “It motivated me because I wanted to be part of that 98% success rate.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “The life skills HPU helped me develop that prepared me for long-term success are effective communication, professional presentation skills, and planning and organizing skills for the workplace.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU’s campus helped me develop the value of diversity and ethical leadership, which I will take with me after graduation.”

Advice for underclassmen: “For international students, plan early and connect with the Office of Career and Professional Development as soon as possible to prepare for your graduate school or career plan. Even though it may take longer than other students, don’t give up and use every opportunity and resource that HPU offers.”
