How HPU helped you get there: “HPU provided me with a network of people who helped prepare me to become an educator for the next generation. My professors in the Stout School of Education not only gave me the tools I need to succeed but taught me that anything is possible as long as you work hard and follow your path. I also visited the Office of Career and Professional Development for help editing my resume.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Teresa Owens, instructor of educator preparation, was my most impactful mentor. She showed me how amazing being a teacher is and how every student deserves a classroom where they are accepted and heard for who they are, no matter the learning differences they might have.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “The most impactful moment for me was when I left campus and worked first-hand in various elementary schools from my freshman to senior year. I was exposed to different levels of learning and provided a plethora of learning tools to use as a future educator. HPU made it easy for me to feel confident in knowing being a teacher was what I truly wanted to do.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU contributed to my success by providing me with an education I couldn’t get at any other undergraduate university. I was taught life skills that go far beyond what you can find in a textbook.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “At HPU, I learned that everything you earn comes from hard work and determination and to always have a growth mindset because there is always room for improvement.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Use every resource HPU has to offer. Four years go by  fast — soak in every second. Take every moment as a learning experience, and take advantage of every opportunity that is handed to you.”
