Internship: Masalleras joined Reynolds American Inc. as a brand marketing intern on their Fit for Future team under consumer marketing. In his role, he worked on development, strategy and conception of future brands for the Winston-Salem, North Carolina based manufacturer that is redefining the market for adult tobacco consumers through innovation.
How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University has taught me to be confident with myself and my abilities. The amazing faulty are always there to answer questions and constantly encourage me to try new things. The Office of Career and Professional Development staff encourage me to apply to big opportunities and teaching me how to act professionally. Thanks to their team, I have the confidence to approach executives and leaders in organizations to ask them questions and learn how I can become better at what I do.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Professor Joe Michaels, HPU’s Broadcaster in Residence, is one of my most impactful mentors at High Point University. He is always smiling and asking how he can help his students. He encourages us daily to be our best. I’ve come to him many times with big ideas, and he always encouraged me to think bigger and offered to help.”
What has your internship experience been like, and how is it preparing you for your future?: “During my internship, I was exposed to national-level and international-level campaigns and gained hands-on experience marketing future products. I worked on independent projects that the company will continue to develop and implement after my internship and was exposed to other inner-workings of a multi-billion-dollar organization. This internship is expanding my knowledge of marketing, corporate professionalism and learning to think outside the box. I learned a lot from this internship — most importantly, how to tackle challenges head-on and work with a team.”
