Name: Annie Zupon
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Major: Entrepreneurship with a minor in marketing
Post-graduation plans: Zupon works with Marsh McLennan Agency in her hometown as a senior associate advisor. She works with top consultants and producers to solve clients’ and prospective clients’ health care and benefit needs.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU helped prepare me for the third-round interview of my job at Marsh McLennan Agency through 1924 PRIME, one of HPU’s fine dining learning labs on campus. 1924 PRIME taught me everything I needed to know about etiquette to ace the interview and land the job. The Office of Career and Professional Development helped me with my interview skills through mock interviews during my time as an undergrad. I learned how to dress, how to give clear answers and how to prepare quality questions for the interviewers. These skills have carried over into my career, too.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Kathy Elliott, director of the entrepreneurship program and assistant professor of entrepreneurship, taught me the importance of details. She taught me how to carry myself in a public speaking setting, which I do a lot of in my current role. She also taught me how to properly prepare to be in any formal business setting.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was competing in the business pitch competition twice. The first time I presented my idea to Marc Randolph, HPU’s Entrepreneur in Residence and Netflix co-founder, he did not hold back on his constructive feedback. I was able to spend the year digesting his feedback and presented to him again the following year, where I impressed him with how far I had come.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “Everyone who attends HPU has the same goal: to be successful and the best version of themselves. It’s next to impossible not to strive to do the same when you are surrounded by dedicated and hardworking peers.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you will take with you? “HPU taught me the importance of interpersonal skills, relationship building and caring about what you do and who you surround yourself with. HPU also cultivated a community of people with the same goal, taught me self-motivation and helped me find my passion.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Stay connected during the year, over the summer, and after you graduate because everyone at HPU wants you to succeed. Learn from mentors, peers and alumni continuously. You never know what connection could help you launch your dream career.”
