Name: Megan Hovey
Hometown: Canandaigua, New York
Year: Class of 2024
Major: Sports media with a minor in social media marketing
Internship: Over the summer, Hovey worked with Slate Teams as a marketing intern. She captured and cataloged hundreds of social media content for sports organizations, as well as designed new email marketing templates to promote clients and new features.
How HPU helped you get there: “Being surrounded by like-minded students on HPU’s campus made me want to accomplish as much as I could during my four years. In and out of the classroom, I strive to connect with my professors to build strong relationships. I utilized the Office of Career and Professional Development during the summer to get pointers on my resume.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Jim Scott, assistant professor of the practice of sports media, is my most impactful mentor at HPU. He taught my sports marketing class during my first semester of sophomore year. He believes in me and tells me that I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to. Having someone else instill these thoughts in me inspires me to be successful.”
What has your internship experience been like, and how is it preparing you for your future?: “Working for a start-up company allowed me to see the ins and outs of the company; not just the marketing side. I was invited to sit in on company-wide meetings, as well as for marketing, product, sales and engineering calls. I was treated like a full-time member of the team, not just a summer intern.”
