Major: Marketing and sport management
Post-graduation plans: Sweet accepted a position as a marketing coordinator of Ready Nutrition, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In her role, she creates brand presentations, visual marketing materials and social media content. She also designs and executes projects for the company’s CEO and vice president.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU provided opportunities to discuss different careers with industry leaders, which led me to my career path. I filled my schedule with event opportunities in different departments to grow my skill set and learn from others. The Office of Career and Professional Development also provided guidance for multiple internships and with my resume.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Larry Quinn, chair of the Department of Marketing and Sales, was my most impactful mentor at HPU. As my advisor for my junior and senior years, he guided and encouraged me through difficult situations. He was someone who always had my back and listened to me. He provided the best class experiences in a great learning environment.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was serving as vice president of the Peer Mentor Program. I was able to encourage upperclassmen to lead a group of freshmen into their new life at HPU. This role taught me about working with people and how to be a leader.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s environment allows people to easily interact and learn from one another. The campus is very open, welcoming and well taken care of, which creates an atmosphere for growth and learning.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU taught me the life skills needed to handle situations with people who have different viewpoints and to listen to others’ opinions.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you took with you after graduation? “HPU taught me that being confident in your abilities is the best way to encourage others and pursue your dreams.”
Advice for underclassmen: “I recommend underclassmen look into applying to companies that offer rotational programs. Rotational programs allow you to explore the different departments of a company, so you can learn what you’re looking for in a position and see where you fit best.”
