Class of 2023 Outcomes: Anna Ferraro Finds Passion in Osteopathic Medicine

Anna Ferraro

HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse at one extraordinary member of the Class of 2023:

Name: Anna Ferraro

Hometown: Schwenksville, Pennsylvania

Major: Biology with a minor in Spanish

Post-graduation plans: Ferraro plans to attend the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia, to pursue a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

How HPU helped you get there:

“HPU provided me with many invaluable opportunities, such as the ability to take a course in the Human Gross Anatomy Lab and work in a research lab since my sophomore year. These experiences helped differentiate me from other medical school candidates. The Office of Career and Professional Development staff played an integral part in my preparation for medical school interviews. They created personally tailored interviews and offered feedback about my responses. When it was time for the real interview, I felt as though I was ready for anything. I have been accepted to every school that offered me an interview.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU:

“My most impactful mentor is Dr. Nicole Hughes, associate professor of biology. She taught me invaluable laboratory skills and became my close friend. She amplified my love for nature and appreciation for plants. She has educated me about other cultures as well as the importance of sustainability. My favorite memory with her was our trip to Alaska, where we had the opportunity to hike in the mountains of Denali National Park, explore ancient glaciers, and learn about Native American culture in Anchorage. She has taken me under her wing and shaped me as a person.”

Most impactful moment at HPU:

“My most impactful moment was meeting my best friends at a soccer game during freshman orientation. I know these friends will be part of my life forever, and I am so grateful HPU brought us together.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?

“Being in a beautiful and dynamic environment every day drives you to become a better person. HPU students are held to high standards, and they rise to the occasion. HPU faculty truly care about the success of students and want them to succeed. Dining staff members, especially Miss Gracie in the cafeteria, bring a smile to my face day every time I see them, and I plan to stay in contact with them after graduation.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?

“HPU helped me gain the confidence to attain my goals. Before college I was shy and insecure about my ability to become a physician, but now I know I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. My friends and mentors have boosted my self-esteem and sense of worth. While working in a research lab over the years, I have been able to hone my technical skills as well as my coachability — two attributes that are attractive to employers.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?

“Starting with President Nido Qubein’s First-Year Seminar on Life Skills, HPU provides an environment in which love for God, family and country thrives. I will continue to spread my patriotism and love for God wherever I live. My family is and will always be the most important thing in my life.”

Advice for underclassmen:

“Continue to use the skills you have gained here and maintain a growth mindset. Always strive to be the best version of yourself, complacency is the enemy of success.”
