Post-graduation plans: Schmitter joins Deloitte as a tax delivery consultant in the International Tax Group in Gilbert, Arizona, where he helps multi-national organizations with preparing, reviewing and filing U.S. international tax forms to meet their unique business needs. He also designs and makes recommendation for time-saving strategies in order for clients to adopt leading-edge practices with timely delivery expectations.

“There are many inspiring mentors on HPU’s campus, but the economics department played an especially pivotal role in helping me to realize my full potential. Dr. Michael McCully, associate professor of economics and director of the International Business Program, was my most impactful mentor at HPU. He went above and beyond to help me realize there is no limit to my success. I am so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to cultivate meaningful relationships with such experienced professors who consistently challenged me in the classroom and supported me in reaching my goals.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful moment was running into Dr. Nido Qubein in the Slane cafeteria during the Summer Advantage program before my freshman year. We chatted as if we were already close friends, and I was struck by the profound compassion, understanding and encouraging advice he gave me. From that moment on, I was determined to surround myself with people who inspired me to be the best version of myself. This experience set the tone for my time at HPU and helped me to effectively form relationships with many top business leaders.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?
“From day one, HPU was an inspiring environment to me. HPU allowed me to pinpoint my initial weaknesses and helped me to grow both personally and professionally.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“HPU’s emphasis on consistent self-improvement allowed me to take on a mindset to set my sights high and develop an unwavering drive from within to achieve whatever I set out for. I also developed the confidence to take chances and seek new opportunities.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“It’s best to start your career process as soon as possible. Take advantage of opportunities that will help you grow, and don’t be afraid to be patient until you find the success you are looking for. Don’t sell yourself short!”
