Post-graduation plans: Marino joins Ernst and Young as a forensic integrity services assurance staff member. She works with the engagement team on client projects, executes investigations by reviewing documents and transactions, and assists managers with reporting on the analysis of investigations.
How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU prepared me for a future in accounting. Building strong relationships with professors and utilizing resources to discuss my goals helped me create a path for a successful future. The Office of Career and Professional Development was a valuable resource beginning my freshman year. I often met with career advisors to navigate searching for jobs and to update my resume. I also asked questions which helped me become more confident in my abilities and land a job in my desired field.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“My most impactful mentors at HPU were George Noxon and Scott Davis, associate professors of accounting. They were always available to discuss career choices with me, and they helped me figure out the path I wanted to take after college. Often, I stopped by their offices to ask a quick question about coursework, but then I stayed to listen to their stories and share a laugh. They consistently advocated for me throughout my time at HPU.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“During the first semester of my freshman year, I met with Professor Noxon to discuss my future courses. He offered to serve as my academic advisor. This was the beginning of a four-year student-mentor relationship and my most impactful moment. Over the years, he provided me with unwavering support as I navigated the accounting field and began my career.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?
“The environment at HPU inspires all students to achieve their goals. I had the chance to listen to successful individuals a part of HPU’s Access to Innovators Program, like Netflix Co-Founder Marc Randolph and Domino’s CEO Russel Weiner. They encouraged me to pursue my dreams and to overcome obstacles along the way. HPU provides so many resources that prepare students for a career after graduation.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“HPU constantly reinforced the importance of networking, and I always found myself building connections. I connected with an HPU accounting alumnus the summer before my junior year, and this relationship ultimately provided me with the opportunity to begin my career with Ernst and Young. Having contacts in my career field helped me continue to learn and grow.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?
“Hard work and personal initiative helped me succeed at HPU. I spent many long days and nights working on assignments while balancing a job and campus organizations, but I persevered and landed a full-time job before the start of my senior year. I am so grateful for the support and guidance from my professors throughout my four years at HPU.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“It is important to take advantage of everything HPU has to offer. There are so many opportunities to explore. Attend guest speaker lectures and presentations and utilize the resources available on campus. Take this time to explore what path you want to take for your future.”
