How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU helped me grow as an individual through their various professional programs, extracurriculars and classes. HPU prepared me for the post-production industry by offering dynamic classes that allowed me to learn from professionals in the field. As a Communication Fellow, I collaborated with other aspiring filmmakers, cinematographers and video editors. I started meeting with the Office of Career and Professional Development during my freshman year to learn more about writing an effective cover letter and resume. The staff helped me prepare my applications for internships and jobs.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“My most impactful mentor at HPU was Barry Thornburg, assistant professor of media production. Professor Thornburg helped me grow as a video editor and gave me the tools to excel. His professional relationship with his students really shaped my education at HPU.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful moment at HPU was meeting my group of friends. If it wasn’t for HPU, I would have never met some of the most important people in my life who pushed me to become the woman I am today.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?
“HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to my success by pushing me to be my best self. I learned to be open to new opportunities. HPU taught me valuable lessons in kindness and generosity, and I learned the importance of being compassionate, understanding and honest.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“HPU helped me grow professionally and prepared me to enter the workforce. At HPU, I improved my time management, communication, problem-solving and leadership skills.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Continuously work on growing your skills and your network. Join clubs that relate to your future career goals, and seek out new experiences in the field you want to work in. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Remember to take time for yourself. Enjoy the small moments in life because your four years at HPU will go by faster than you think.”
