High Point University alumnus Jorgen Krone has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program’s award to pursue a master’s degree in security and diplomacy at Tel Aviv University in Tel Aviv, Israel. He graduated from HPU with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2024.

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 21, 2026 – High Point University alumnus Jorgen Krone has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program’s award to pursue a master’s degree in security and diplomacy at Tel Aviv University in Tel Aviv, Israel. He graduated from HPU with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2024.

Krone, a native of Wilmette, Illinois, will build on his experience as a Boren Fellow in Amman, Jordan, where he studied Arabic and gained deeper appreciation for balancing national security priorities with humanitarian security considerations.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the federal government’s flagship cultural exchange program for graduating seniors and recent college graduates to teach English, pursue a master’s degree or conduct independent research for one academic year in one of 140 countries around the world.

Krone’s scholarship comes after HPU set a school record for most Fulbright recipients in a single year with five graduates earning scholarships in 2025.

Through the Fulbright award, Krone, a native of Wilmette, Illinois, will build on his experience as a Boren Fellow in Amman, Jordan, where he studied Arabic at the Qasid Arabic Institute and worked as a research assistant with the Arab Center for Security Studies at Jordan University. His research focused on maritime security, nuclear enrichment among non-nuclear weapon states and regional security in the India-Middle East Economic Corridor.

Through the Boren Fellowship, Krone gained a deeper appreciation for balancing national security priorities with humanitarian security considerations. He will continue his Arabic studies and begin learning Hebrew while studying in Tel Aviv’s security and diplomacy program.

“I believe language is at the heart of diplomacy because it allows us to understand people, not just policies,” Krone said. “Education, dialogue and genuine human connection remain essential to building trust and lasting peace.”

For Krone, the Fulbright carries deep personal significance, as he was named for a relative who helped 7,000 Danish Jews escape from Nazi-occupied Denmark during World War II.

“Studying in Israel allows me to reconnect with that history while continuing my own commitment to service, understanding and bridge-building,” Krone said. “Above all, I hope the people I meet — Jewish, Muslim, Christian and others — know they have a friend in me. Whether sharing a meal, practicing Arabic or Hebrew, or simply listening to one another’s stories, I hope to build genuine relationships rooted in mutual respect.”

Krone expressed that it was an honor to represent the U.S. as a Fulbright recipient during our nation’s 250th anniversary.

“As I begin this next chapter, I do so with humility, gratitude and a profound sense of responsibility,” he said. “I am honored to represent the United States during this historic milestone and hope to reflect the very best of our country through curiosity, respect, service and a sincere commitment to understanding others. I look forward to carrying the lessons of this journey into a career dedicated to diplomacy, national security and public service.”
