Dr. Heidi Summey joined the High Point University faculty in 2010 as an assistant professor in the Educator Preparation Program in the Stout School of Education. She completed her doctoral studies at UNC-Greensboro in 1995, earning a degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on exceptional individuals. Prior to HPU, Dr. Summey gained over 20 years of experience as a special education teacher in public schools. At HPU, she divides her time between undergraduate and graduate programs, teaching special education and education technology courses. Additionally, Dr. Summey coaches teacher candidates through the edTPA process and mentors doctoral candidates during their dissertation journey. She believes teacher candidates should be well-prepared to implement best practices for teaching reading and to integrate educational technology in meaningful ways to engage students. Dr. Summey is LETRS certified and an ISTE Certified Educator.
