Dr. Ringel specializes in the cultural and intellectual history of 19th century America. In addition to US History surveys, he teaches on the Civil War and American legal history. His book, Commercializing Childhood: The Children’s Magazine Industry and American Gentility, 1823-1918 is forthcoming from the University of Massachusetts Press. Recently, he presented “The Rise, Fall, and Resurgence of Boston’s Royal Rooters: A Study in Public Memory, Fandom, and Masculinity.”
