New Member Education
Membership recruitment and new member education at High Point University are a partnership between chapter members, alumni advisors, inter/national headquarters, and the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life. The materials below outline the expectations every recognized chapter agrees to follow.

Expectations of organizations

Every recognized chapter conducting recruitment or New Member Education/Intake agrees to the following.

  1. To conduct any Membership Recruitment or NME/I advertising, programming, or events, the organization must complete and submit its packet to FSL with all requested attachments, information, and signatures, meeting every stated deadline.
  2. The organization must not begin NME/I until its Notice of Process has been approved or acknowledged by FSL staff, alumni advisors, and inter/national headquarters.
  3. NME/I must meet all requirements outlined in the University’s Recognition Policy.
  4. NME/I must not extend longer than six weeks and must be completed by the last day of classes.
  5. NME/I must not occur outside an academic semester and must not extend beyond one semester.
  6. NME/I and initiation must occur within the same semester the new member received and signed the Bid Acceptance Agreement.
  7. NME/I must not take place earlier than 8:00 a.m. and must conclude no later than 11:00 p.m.
  8. NME/I must not interfere with academic or University-sanctioned commitments.

Purpose

The purpose of this process is to support HPU’s fraternities and sororities through Membership Recruitment and New Member Education/Intake (NME/I). It is meant to educate members, advisors, and aspiring members about the expectations and procedures outlined by Fraternity & Sorority Life. FSL believes a strong partnership among members, alumni advisors, and inter/national headquarters ensures a successful, positive experience for everyone involved, and that these activities support the mission and core values of High Point University, FSL, and each inter/national organization.
