Internships and Experiential Learning

Graphic design majors have a wealth of opportunities available to them each semester in which they can participate and practice their craft. Sechrest Gallery and Deal Student Gallery maintain rotating exhibitions that highlight student, professional and historically significant works of art. Students may also choose to go on art excursions. Recent trips have included Asheville, NC; Washington, D.C.; Charleston, SC; Italy; France and Spain. Each summer students can join faculty in traveling abroad to view art and architecture.

Select students can apply for a one-semester study abroad program that is available through our partner institution in Florence, Italy. Students entering into their sophomore year are eligible to compete for art-specific scholarships. Award selection is determined based on an outstanding portfolio of work, excellent GPA, defined artist’s statement and other application requirements. Information and deadlines will be posted annually.

A number of our students elect to complete an internship while at High Point University. These experiences provide students with the opportunity to obtain valuable job-relevant experience. Some internships completed by recent art and design students are:

  • Mullen Advertising
  • Matthews Mobile Media
