GSGA Flags Banner

The Graduate Senate is the representative body of the Graduate Student Government Association encompassing all organizations and programs. They meet regularly to act on legislation and provide a voice for graduate students. The Executive Vice President of GSGA serves as the Speaker of the Senate and actively participates in various groups within the University.

  • Senators (representatives of active chartered graduate organizations)

Academic Year 2025-2026
All meetings are held in-person at 6:00pm ET in the Baur Executive Education Suite located in Cottrell Hall on Tuesdays unless otherwise noted. Online-only and hybrid programs may receive an exception by contacting GSGA at [email protected]. *Schedule subject to change with announcement by GSGA.

Bills must be submitted by Thursday at 5:00pm ET the week prior to the GSGA Senate meeting. It must be fully approved by the organization President and Advisor by Friday at 5:00pm ET to be included in the GSGA Senate meeting agenda. It is the organization’s responsibility to make sure all parties have approved it by the established deadlines.

Guidelines:

  • Programs or Organizations that hope to receive funding for an event/trip in GSGA must submit a bill detailing the request and follow the appropriate travel and procurement process.
  • Requisitions submitted to the Business Office may take 2 weeks to process, so plan to submit requisitions for an approved bill at least 4 weeks prior to the event or trip. It is recommended to begin planning for your trip a minimum of 6 weeks in advance.

Meetings take place in-person where all Senators and general audience members of the GSGA meetings are expected to wear appropriate attire for a business meeting. Active engagement in the meeting is expected, including any virtual participants with their camera on for the duration of the meeting.

Organization/Program Attendance

Organizations and programs may view their attendance through the link below. Attendance requirements are in place to ensure good standing organization status and the ability to submit budgets and/or bills.

Constitution: Article IX, Section II. Organization Standing.

All graduate student organizations in the Graduate Student Government Association must become chartered. Chartered Organizations must have an approved working Constitution, can submit bills, can request a budget up to the allowed amount determined by the Financial Codes, and attend 7 meetings per semester to remain in good standing.

Bylaws: Article VIII, Section II. Good Standing and Bad Standing.

  1. An organization that meets the minimum required meetings seven (7), will remain in good standing with the Graduate Student Government Association;
  2. Failure to attend the Senate Refresher will result in two (2) absences for that semester.
  3. An organization that does not meet the minimum required meetings seven (7), will be moved into bad standing;
  4. To be moved back into good standing, organizations must undergo a charter review process set forth by the Review Committee, which is made up of the Executive Vice President, Secretary and President;
  5. In bad standing, organizations retain their charter as an active organization, but lose their vote in the Senate and lose power to ask for money from the Senate;
  6. If an organization has moved into inactive status, they must undergo a charter review process set forth the Student Affairs Committee.
