Interlibrary Loan

Kahn Law School and Interlibrary Loan Services

Overview

Interlibrary Loan services are currently available to all law students. If the HPU Libraries do not own an item needed for your research, you may request the item from another library through Interlibrary Loan. This service is available to HPU students, faculty, and staff. Items include books, audio and visual items, articles, microform items, etc.

Articles can be delivered electronically to the patron’s email in about 1-3 days. Books take a bit longer, between 1 and 3 weeks. Please keep in mind when requesting materials that these are the average turnaround times. Instructional or specialty video and audio materials, dissertations, music scores, and most other types of items can be requested. Items can be picked up in Smith Library.

You can make ILL requests and check their status by logging into your HPUShare account.

Before creating an ILL request

Before creating an ILL request, try searching for materials in one of the following access points:

  • HPU Library catalog: The premiere portal to HPU library collections .
  • Journal Finder: An access point to our academic journal collection.
  • Google Scholar (HPU-specific link): A version of Google Scholar that includes a direct connection to HPU held items as well. You can ONLY access this version of Google Scholar through the HPU library homepage.

All of these access points can be found on HPU Libraries homepage. Searching in these places first will save you the wait if we have access to the materials you need.

Articles

Once an article is acquired the patron will receive a notice in their e-mail. There, a link will take them to their HPUShare library account where a PDF of the article will be available for downloading.

Books

Books and other physical items (DVD’s, dissertations, et.) can be borrowed from other institutions and will be delivered to Kahn law School Library when acquired.

Delivery

When an item requested by a law school patron arrives, it will automatically be delivered to the Kahn Law School Library. It will already be checked out to the patron and will be held at the circulation desk in the law school library. A notice that the item is ready will be sent once the item arrives. In order for this to take place, the patron must select Kahn Law School from the Department dropdown menu (below).

Renewals

Log into your HPUShare account, find the item you want to renew and click on the renew button located to the right of the selected item.

Renewal requests can only be submitted one week or less before the due date. This gives the lending library enough time to process the request and complete the renewal. If the due date has passed and you still want to renew, contact [email protected]. A renewal request will be sent to the lending library from the ILL office.

If a renewal is denied, another ILL request for the same item can be submitted through HPUShare. Keep in mind that ILL books can take between 1 and 3 weeks to arrive.

Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] with any questions regarding Interlibrary Loan.
