Welcome to HPU Libraries! HPU Libraries is here to help you work hard and play hard too. Whether you are looking for the latest research, latest leisure reading releases, or even the newest or most obscure film releases, HPU Libraries is here to support you. This blog will give you a brief overview of the resources and services that you have at your disposal at HPU. As always, if you ever have any questions, you can always ask a librarian (we’ll get to that in just a moment.)
Library Locations and Hours
HPU Libraries is made up of four different library locations. Smith Library is the main academic library on campus, the Martha Luck Comer Learning Commons in Wanek Center is a leisure reading/quiet study library, the Children’s library at the Stout School of Education provides resources for education-related materials, and the Bassett Furniture Library in Norton Hall houses a collection of materials related to the furniture market. Most of our libraries are open 24/5 except for the Children’s Library and the Bassett Furniture Collection. To see all our locations and hours, click here.
Librarians and Services
HPU Libraries is staffed by a team of dedicated librarians that are ready and eager to help you find what you need. Librarians can help you with research questions, search techniques, locating materials, citation questions, materials checkout, and Interlibrary Loan requests.
Librarians also offer virtual workshops during the semester on subjects such as introductory and advanced research techniques, introduction to differing citation styles, fact-checking, and more. Click here to see a schedule of our online workshops. Smith Library is also home to the campus print shop which provides specialized academic printing services. The library and its librarians are available any time that the library is open and can be reached by telephone, email, text, online chat, or by appointment. HPU Libraries provides users access to a wide range of resources. These resources include:
…and much more!
The library also has a large media collection that consists of DVDs, Blu-Ray, CDs, audiobooks, vinyl records, and media equipment such as DSLR cameras, tripods, GoPros, classic video game systems, and much more. Smith Library also houses a state-of-the-art podcasting studio and makerspace that are equipped to support all your creative needs. Click here to see some of these amazing media spaces and resources.
Getting started is often the most difficult part of any project. Here at HPU Libraries, our goal is to make searching as easy and effective as possible. To begin your search, you can start by going to the library website at www.highpoint.edu/library. From here, you have a wide variety of places to look to begin your search. For basic searches, try using the library catalog. For more deliberate searching, try using our “Databases A-Z” list or our research guides. All these resources offer highly customizable searching so you can make your searches as simple or complex as you need. If you have questions about how to cite your research, try using our citation guides for guidance and examples of how to cite research in many of the most heavily used citation styles used in academia.
Finally, you can access specific journals that HPU has access to by using Journal Finder. Journal Finder offers basic and advanced search functionality, and you can search for journals by title or by subject.
These are just some of the ways that HPU Libraries can support you in your journey through college. Remember, when in doubt, ask a librarian!
