Students can use their Spanish language and cultural skills in real- life settings by participating in study abroad programs, which offer internship opportunities, or by working in cross-cultural settings in the High Point area. Some of our students have tutored in English as a Second Language in local schools, in volunteer organizations that assist the Hispanic community, at local Hispanic radio stations, and at the semi-annual High Point Market.
Students have the opportunity to study Spanish during a semester or summer program abroad in Ecuador, Guatemala, or Spain. Courses taken abroad fulfill major and minor requirements, which means that students maintain normal academic progress toward the completion of their degree. Students studying abroad live with host families. Students have the opportunity to meet and interact with international visitors from Spanish-speaking countries during special visits to campus. During their Senior Seminar, students engage in individualized research under the guidance of a faculty member in their particular area of interest.
