In just a few short weeks High Point University students will be moving back to campus and gearing up for the 2015-2016 academic year.
This month, our students continued working toward prestigious career paths around the world through summer internships with Fortune 500 companies, international service programs and many other esteemed organizations.
As a recap, here are the top 5 stories from our website that have been viewed, shared and talked about the most during the month of July.
1. And… ACTION!
This summer sophomore Halle Gardner is interning with My Entertainment, an independent television production company in New York City.
She’s currently working for Travel Channel’s hit show “Ghost Adventures,” and discovering it’s hard work behind the scenes that leads to the production of an award-winning series.
She has also had the unique opportunity to work closely with the production coordinator Griffin Senning, a 2011 High Point University alum.
“I’m learning daily how to maneuver a large city and gaining insight into all the opportunities available in communications.”

2. She’s in People Magazine!
Former Campus Chronicle Editor-In- Chief Jodi Guglielmi graduated in May with a degree in Strategic Communication and accepted a position as an Editorial Intern at People Magazine!
In her position, Guglielmi assists editors with their daily duties including fact checking, article and photo research, blogging for the website, working with social media and more!
She’s even had a piece of work published in the magazine!

3. On the Runway
Meet Julia Dalton, Class of 2013.
She received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and pre-pharmacy education, served as the president of Kappa Delta sorority, was a resident assistant and a supplementary instructor in statistics during her time at HPU.
In July she also competed for the title of Miss USA!

4. Answering the Call to Ministry
Rising senior and HPU music major Thomas Lyons has found his calling.
He’s spent the summer and upcoming academic year discerning a call to become an ordained deacon during a full-time ministry internship with the United Methodist Church.
“Coming to the university has helped me grow spiritually as the person I am through music and religion,” he says.
“Those two fields are my passion, and when I combine the two of them, I know I’m on the right path.”

5. Hire Me!
You’ve studied hard. You’ve interned during your summer breaks. You’ve got a killer cover letter and resume. Now what?
The Office of Career and Internship Services has outlined six “best practices” to turn your undergraduate work and and internship experience into a full-time career option upon graduation.
First you have to ask a lot of questions!
The best “student workers” have done their homework about the organization and its people before starting to work, are bright, naturally curious, and quickly able to build on the skills they learn on the job.
