Class of 2020 -

With another successful Commencement behind us, recent High Point University graduates are kicking off prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2019:

Name: Alexandra Sprouse

Hometown: Clemmons, North Carolina

Major: Biology, with a focus in health sciences, and minors in mathematics and Spanish

Post-graduation plans: Sprouse will be attending graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine.

How HPU helped you get there: “The science faculty at HPU really go above and beyond to help their students. I felt that any professor I encountered at HPU was not only open to academic guidance but also eager to help me succeed in all aspects of life. My advisors prepped me for my medical school applications with mock interviews and essay revisions. They were also open to just talking with me if I walked into their office unexpectedly.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Brett Woods. Applying to medical school is very stressful, and without him to walk me through the process, encourage me and listen to my anxieties and frustrations, I could not have managed. He definitely helped me feel like I was on top of the application process.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “The opportunity to study abroad showed me various cultures and demonstrated to me that although people may live differently, we all commonly share the fact that we are humans with feelings who deserve to be treated with respect.”

Advice for underclassmen: “To be successful after graduation, I suggest taking full advantage of all of the brilliant people around you on campus. All the students, faculty and staff come from various backgrounds, and it is valuable to absorb as much knowledge as you can from the environment where you are lucky enough to live.”
