HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary graduate from the Class of 2022:

Name: Angelica Lopez-Duran

Hometown: Jacksonville, North Carolina

Major: Media production and entrepreneurship with a minor in social innovation

Post-graduation plans: Lopez-Duran joined the YWCA of High Point as the healthy beginnings case manager to provide minority women support and resources for up to two years after giving birth. Support is provided through home visits, bimonthly educational group meetings and access to resources such as diapers, clothes and car seats.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU provided multiple opportunities to explore my interests in a professional setting, while giving me the support I needed to gain confidence in my professional goals. When I decided my major was not in line with the direction I wanted for my career, I was able to connect with my minor and the Bonner Leader Program which supported my interest in a nonprofit career.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU was Dr. Corey Esquenazi, director of Fraternity and Sorority Life. He helped me believe in myself and supported everything I did. After planning the entirety of Panhellenic recruitment with him, I was more self-confident. I would not be the person I am today without him as a mentor.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was joining the Bonner Leader Program my sophomore year. Getting to work directly with the community and making an impact year after year with other like-minded students who wanted to make positive change in the community was so rewarding. My senior year, I was the president of the program, and getting the chance to mentor the younger Bonners is something I will cherish.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPUs inspiring environment contributed to my success because I was consistently surrounded by supportive and determined peers and mentors who pushed me to excel.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “The life skills I developed over the past few years range from problem-solving and stress management to positive social and professional communication skills. Being an active participant in my community has led me to make career-impacting connections.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Get involved in everything you possibly can. There is something for every interest you may have and being involved will not only help you create friendships that will last a lifetime but help you feel self-confident when entering the working world.”
