Major: Neuroscience with a minor in Spanish
Post-graduation plans: Kapolis works as a research assistant for the neuropharmacology in-vivo team at Myro Therapeutics in Boston, Massachusetts. In her role, she is working with a team on small-molecule drug solutions for neurological diseases and disorders.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU supported me by providing me with many valuable resources. My advisors, who helped me with my resume and the job application process, were my biggest asset to finding my ideal job within the biotech industry.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Kristin Ackerman, assistant professor of medical sciences, was my most impactful mentor. She helped me recognize my individual strengths in the classroom. She devoted her time in and out of the classroom to promote and support every student’s success.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was when Dr. Ackerman pointed out to me how I was excelling at a specific aspect of the lab work in one of my physiology courses my sophomore year. This direct comment about a specific strength of mine opened my eyes to where my strengths could take me after graduation. This simple validation in the classroom was a personalized experience I had not had before.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s beautiful and innovative campus motivated me to strive for the finer things in life. Being surrounded by modern, state-of-the-art buildings motivated me to work hard in order to continue working in environments as cutting-edge and innovative as those at HPU.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop the life skill of working hard for your goals and aspirations. My professors and advisors encouraged me to develop my passion and enthusiasm for scientific research and guided me into the career path that was best for me. They helped me recognize my own strengths and how I could best apply them after graduation.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU’s state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities motivated me to strive for success. Being surrounded by modern and ample scientific environments with many tools and equipment in which I could gain vital skills within the neuroscience field helped to motivate me to develop my passion and experience for scientific research. Wanek School of Natural Science’s hub aimed at collaboration and communication brought students together for study groups and collaborative work.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Always be striving for the next goal! Create a goal series and celebrate after reaching each intermediate goal along the way to the bigger ones. Always striving for something keeps you motivated and inspired. Trying new things by accomplishing goals helps you to hone in on your interests and niches, too.”
