How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University opened so many doors to explore career options and engage in personal development. I would not have been able to take the next step to law school without the support of the faculty and staff, who led by example. I used the Office of Career and Professional Development to help with law school admissions. I received excellent guidance and mentorship with my resume and personal statement.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Mark Setzler, professor of political sciences and director of the International Relations Program, taught my senior capstone course in the department. He took time to meet with me frequently throughout the semester to provide feedback on my research and reassure me that I was on the right track. He was also influential in my law school application process. He went through multiple drafts of my personal statement and helped me plan for the application cycle. I am grateful for his constant mentorship.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment was presenting my research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research my senior year. It was the first time I ever did a presentation of that nature.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “It is difficult to not be inspired by the intentional environment created at HPU. Every activity on campus has an underlying purpose to inspire students to do better and be better. From dinners at one of the two fine-dining learning labs to opportunities in clubs, the university cultivates an environment of purpose that correlates to the success of students.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Take advantage of all the opportunities available to you at HPU. It can become easy to just enjoy college and not think about the future. Meet with your professors and your career advisor. The faculty and staff want to help you, but you have to have the courage to reach out.”
