HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse at one extraordinary member of the Class of 2023:
Name: Carolina Kapper
Hometown: Dover, Ohio
Major: Data analytics and statistics and mathematics
Post-graduation plans: Kapper will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to pursue a Ph.D. in biostatistics.
How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU exposed me to research very early in my undergraduate career. I got involved in research starting in my third semester and participated in several summer research experiences thanks to the guidance from HPU faculty. The Office of Career and Professional Development was also a huge help during my application process. I stopped in the career office when I needed a second set of eyes to look over my application materials. HPU’s fine-dining learning labs also prepared me. Several of my graduate school interviews included a meal with faculty or current students in the program, one of which was a four-course Italian dinner. At the dinner, I was one of the only students with knowledge of fine-dining etiquette, and I attribute all of my knowledge in this area to my weekly dinners at 1924 PRIME. Upon returning from this interview, I couldn’t wait to tell Mr. Tim Applegate, general manager of 1924 PRIME, that all of his tips and tricks paid off!”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“My most impactful HPU mentor is Dr. Adam Graham-Squire, associate professor of mathematics. He was always there to answer my questions, lend a listening ear or make me laugh on a stressful day. Over my four years, I spent hours in his office sharing mathematical ideas and silly stories.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful experience at HPU was joining the Honors Scholars Program. Not only did I meet lifelong best friends through the program, but I also had the opportunity to learn from many of HPU’s greatest professors in all disciplines.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?
“HPU showed me the difference even the smallest bit of kindness can make. Every night for four years, my roommates and I would make conversation with the employees in The Café, and we were often told that those little conversations made their entire day. We became especially close with Mr. Walter and Ms. Tina, and we could always count on them for a big hug or an extra scoop of ice cream.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Connect with your professors! Many underclassmen are surprised to learn that your professors often want to learn about you as much as you want to learn about them. Connecting with my professors was one of my favorite parts of my time at HPU, and they are connections I’ll keep for a lifetime.”
