How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU gave me a springboard into opportunities I didn’t think possible at my age. I was exposed to industry professionals and pioneering business leaders as early as freshman year and was able to leverage those connections into job offers. I also visited Dr. Doug Hall, vice president of career and professional development, in the Office of Career and Professional Development where he answered my questions and gave me great advice during my time at HPU.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“Tom James, assistant professor of the practice of finance, was my most impactful mentor as well as my advisor and professor. I remember nervously going into my first Investment Club meeting and when he saw me and went out of his way to introduce himself. From then on, I went to him for general career questions. Talking to him was therapeutic and put all of my job worries away.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful moment was during my first unofficial visit when I was in high school. Some of my friends were current students at the time and invited me to come visit them on campus. I was set on going to a school in my hometown, but after one day of sightseeing and exploring HPU’s campus, I was hooked.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?
“HPU is full of people who have worked at pioneering companies, from current students to alumni. That access makes it easy to reach out and make connections that can kickstart your career path.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“The biggest life skill I learned on campus was the art of selling yourself. HPU’s Professional Selling Program helped me build confidence to position myself as an asset during interviews and land my previous internship at Amazon Web Services and get my start in the technology field.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?
“Humility and gratitude are the values and virtues that HPU helped me develop. By being exposed to a new breadth of people from all over the world, HPU taught me to never forget where I came from and how to position my life story into a manifestation of success that can lead you to help others.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Extend yourself to meet new people. The adult world is all about living and building relationships with others. It’s very easy to meet friends in college and crucial to build solid relationships that can last a lifetime. So talk to someone in your class or at a club meeting. You never know who you will meet.”
