Hometown: Somers, Connecticut

Major: Neuroscience with a minor in psychology

Post-graduation plans: Milliken joins Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, as a medical assistant in general surgery. She assists with outpatient charts, post-surgical care and surgery.

How HPU helped you get there:

“My advisors and professors worked with me to plan the next step in my journey. I also met with the Office of Career and Professional Development and Emily Long, senior career advisor, for help with my resume and career advice. The people at HPU always supported me and wanted the best for my future.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: 

“My most impactful mentor at HPU was Dr. Michael Grider, assistant professor of biology. He was my professor and advisor and never failed to advocate for me. He helped me understand the most complex neuroscience content and also guided me when developing my post-graduate plans.”

Most impactful moment at HPU:

“My most impactful moment at HPU was helping other students as an academic services student tutor. There are many rewarding opportunities that HPU provided me with, but helping underclassmen in some of the toughest science and psychology classes was my most impactful experience.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?

“HPU’s inspiring environment pushed me to achieve my goals. Every professor at HPU helped me make my college journey successful. They prepared me for my future through mock interviews, communication seminars and one-on-one career meetings.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?

“One of the most useful life skills HPU helped me develop was self-awareness. HPU helped me realize my capabilities and allowed me to set my own goals. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, and HPU taught me that this is what makes us special.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?

“I value the sense of community that HPU brought to every student on campus. I was nervous about being so far from my family, but HPU made it easy for me. HPU’s professors and staff made campus feel like home. Being surrounded by such caring people made my college experience worthwhile.”

Advice for underclassmen:

“Seize every opportunity. HPU provides the best resources. Stop by the Office of Career and Professional Development and ask about opportunities like research, internships and jobs. You never know what could make a huge positive impact on your future.”
