There are two scholarships available to English majors. They are the:
- Dr. Martha M. Gleaton Endowed Scholarship
- Ladies Literary League Scholarship
Dr. Martha M. Gleaton Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Martha M. Gleaton Endowed Scholarship honors the former Associate Professor and Department Chair of English, Dr. Martha Gleaton. Outstanding junior or senior students majoring in literature are eligible to apply.
Ladies Literary League Scholarship
The Ladies Literary League Scholarship is awarded to a female writing major from North Carolina by the Ladies Literary League of High Point. Both are one-year scholarships bestowed annually.
The Edward J. Piacentino Award for Outstanding Scholarship is an annual prize given to a senior English major or minor based on a portfolio of scholarly writing from 2000-4000 level courses taught by Department of English faculty. The Piacentino Award honors longtime HPU faculty member, Dr. Ed Piacentino, a nationally-known scholar of American humor and 19th century American literature, who retired in 2012.
The Marion C. Hodge Creative Writing Award is an annual prize given to a senior English major or minor based on a portfolio of short fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or a mix of genres. The Hodge Award honors longtime HPU faculty member, Dr. Marion (Butch) Hodge, a published poet and 20th century American literature scholar, who retired in 2011.
