The Overlook garden is a very special place. It is the last remnant of the much larger pine forests that once covered the HPU campus. Underneath the mature shortleaf pine canopy is a small network of mulched paths that take you past a collection of beautiful woodland plants.

In spring, redbuds, azaleas, daffodils, creeping phlox, winter jasmine, and magnolias burst into color.

In summer the elegant trees entice you in with their cool shade and reward you with blooming hydrangeas and buckeyes.

The garden puts on a show in fall as the oakleaf hydrangeas and red maples turn a deep purple and flame red.

Finally once the weather has turned cold and the leaves are long gone, the camellias put on their show. Their full, bright flowers stick out like little jewels against the glossy dark foliage and cheer up everyone who passes by.
